The last time I made this mini chocolate cake for two, we ate it in the car on the way to dinner. Pour cake batter into a 9-by-13-inch prepared baking pan, and bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. I was wondering if you might have advice if I did this as a 13 x 9 layered cake. As for the aparent caramel layer… I rehydrated chopped figs and dates in hot water then blended in blender to a runnier paste, it really worked well and enhanced the chocolate flavour.

So i tried your recipe, and the cake turned out okay, but whenever i try making the frosting, it doesn’t thicken. There is also another way using water instead of butter- I will include this in the recipe revision. You can even use buttermilk, or make your own (3/4 cup milk mixed with 2 teaspoons white vinegar before doing anything else to allow the milk time to sour).
Came across this recipe in my fb news feed today and really want to try it for a fundraising event end of next week – looks like it will bring in some pennies for charity, (probably from me buying every slice!!!
